NCT Group organises mangrove tree planting programme in celebration of Earth Day
April 22nd, 2026

NCT Group of Companies reinforced its environmental, social, and governance commitments through a mangrove tree planting program conducted at Kuala Selangor Nature Park, in collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society.

The program focused on coastal restoration and climate resilience through the rehabilitation of degraded mangrove ecosystems.

The initiative saw 80 participants comprising employees and their families plant 320 mangrove saplings, with the group highlighting the activity as part of its wider ESG focus on environmental protection and community engagement. The programme also included an educational session on the ecological importance of mangroves followed by hands-on planting activities aimed at improving awareness of coastal protection and biodiversity conservation.

Mangroves were highlighted during the programme as critical natural assets that protect coastlines from erosion, support marine biodiversity and act as highly efficient carbon sinks. NCT Group noted that mangroves can absorb approximately four to five times more carbon dioxide than tropical forests, reinforcing their importance in climate mitigation efforts.

Founder and Group Managing Director of NCT Group of Companies Dato’ Sri Yap Ngan Choy said “Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond intent, it is reflected in the actions we take to protect and restore the environment. Through initiatives such as this mangrove planting programme, we are contributing to nature-based climate solutions while fostering a culture of responsibility among our people and communities. We remain dedicated to driving meaningful, long-term impact in line with our ESG priorities.”

The initiative contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Climate Action, Life Below Water and Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society. It forms part of the group’s broader ESG roadmap which is structured around environmental protection, community empowerment and inclusive growth.

NCT Group said the mangrove initiative reflects its ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its development activities while promoting environmental awareness across employees and their families through shared participation in conservation projects.
